Lake Success is a village in Nassau County, Long Island located in New York state and is practically a borough in and of itself. With its close proximity to Manhattan, many of the village’s 2,934 residents commute to and from the city on a regular basis while making a home out on Long Island. Lake Success is part of the town of New Hempstead, which is located on the northwest portion of the island. Lake Success was once the temporary home of the United Nations from 1946 to 1951 and was once the home of William K. Vanderbilt who bought the land surrounding the lake from which the village gets its name. Lake Success is a kettle lake that was believed to have once had the name “Sucut”, a Native American name, before it was called Lake Success when purchased by Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt bought the land around to lake to build a home where, and the village was finally incorporated in the town of New Hempstead in 1926.
